Since Reagan raised Taxes, ped Amnesty(1.7M), grew Gov't, could he be in today's GOP?

reagan spearheaded the deregulation of savings and loans which lead to major problems AFTER he left office. reagan also was an advocate of amnesty. there are specific things that presidents do that i call them on. what's frustrating, especially in the current political climate, is that the level of debate and political tone has sunk to new lows. the sun came up and x was president that day, the sun came up BECAUSE x was president. no effort whatsoever to explain cause and effect. we all know what fannie and freddie contributed to the destruction of the world banking system. we know who defended franklin raines (and still champion freddie and fannie to this day) and who sounded the alarm about the looming sub prime crisis. dems control both houses 2006-2008 as the dark clouds formed and budget deficits ped, and yet all we hear is "bush drove the economy into a ditch" and the use of air quotes whenever the president says the words "markets" and "capitalism" as if they're they are disproven economic forces. many of us who remember the 1st two years of the clinton adminisration and what happenned after he lost both houses of congress, the whole "era of big government" speech and the shut down over spending battles, and the explosion in the economy related to the internet, and now we here about how CLINTON balanced budgets. i criticize and compliment both reagan and clinton for the specific things they did but most of political discourse these days is basic tribalism. no mention in your question whatsoever of tip o'neill or robert byrd. what branch of government pes budgets and laws, again?
