Science Fiction book about kids building spaceship and going up in space to another planet?

I read a Science Fiction book about kids building a spaceship and going up in space to another planet. I believe they meet the aliens from that planet and helped them or something. Any Ideas anyone of the book title? I believe it was a small series of books.
