Can you help me understand the PSAT?

I've heard all about the National Merit Scholarships and I was hoping someone could explain the whole commend, semi-final, finalist thing because I'm having trouble understanding. Is it true that finalists have to take another test to figure out if they get awarded scholarships? I scored a 225 on the test. Do I have a chance of getting a scholarship?
