Why are so many Protestant Evangelical afraid of James 2:14-26?

I'm an evangelical Christian but I notice that many evangelicals don't like to read pages like James 2:14-26. Why would this bother many Christians? The Bible clearly states that salvation automatically results in a life of good deeds and love for neighbor.
